The Whitsunday Islands are home to some of the most Instagram-able locations in Australia, and are home to a small group of creative photographers who have set out to capture and share the beauty of their backyard. We've caught up with some of our favourite local creatives to ask what life is like in the Whitsundays and garner a sneak peak into their top tips and secrets to success for those hoping to capture some viral-worthy shots on their next Whitsunday adventure.

Q. What is your favourite place to photograph in the Whitsunday Islands?

A. Pentecost Island, the rocks around Blue Pearl Bay or underwater at the outer reef.


Q. What camera gear do you use?

A. Nikon Z6


Q. What do you love to do on a day off?

A. Adventure around the islands or the inland trails, try to find new spots to catch sunrise and sunset. Ideally squeeze in a cheeky spearfish in between.


Q. Do you have a dream travel destination in Australia?

A. Have been dreaming of the Kimberley since I was a sprout.

A. Hill Inlet and Black Reef on the outer Great Barrier Reef.

A. Canon 80D & DJI Mavic Air drone.


Q. What do you love to do on a day off?

A. Picnics are always my go-to but I also love spending time in my little home art studio.


Q. Do you have a dream travel destination in Australia?

A. I’ve always wanted to go to Uluru and Lake Eyre after the rain.

Q. What is your favourite place to photograph in the Whitsunday Islands?

A. At the moment I’m loving a little reef off South Molle Island, but anywhere underwater with healthy coral gardens.

A. Nikon D850.


Q. What do you love to do on a day off?

A. Snorkel and explore underwater while snapping a few shots.


Q. Do you have a dream travel destination in Australia?

A. Wreck Reefs – about 300km East of the Swains in the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

A. I’m very biased, but all the underwater ones.

A. Scuba diving at the reef or making ceramics in my studio.

A. Exploring nature or working on little projects.

A. Kakadu National Park or West Coast road-trip.

Q. What is your favourite place to photograph in the Whitsunday Islands?

A. Hill Inlet - The turquoise waters and swirling silica sands here have to be seen to be believed.

Q. What camera gear do you use?

A. Olympus E-M1 Mark II

Q. What do you love to do on a day off?

A. Island hopping of course! There are a couple of magical spots I love to visit, starting with Langford Island which has a great little lookout just a short walk from the sand spit. After checking this out it's then time to head to Border Island and the lookout overlooking Cateran Bay for morning tea before a short cruise onto the most famous and spectacular of the Whitsundays' lookouts at Hill Inlet for lunch. From here it's time for a snorkel at Manta Ray Bay at Hook Island to finish off the day with the friendly Maori Wrasse and huge GT's that live here.

Q. Do you have a dream travel destination in Australia?

A. The Southern Great Barrier Reef. There are so many incredible little islands and amazing snorkelling spots along this stretch of coastline.
